Pineau d'Aunis- Loire Valley, France

Domaine Tessier was founded in 1961 by Roger Tessier, with his son Philippe taking the reins 20 years later in 1981. They are located in the heart of the Cheverny and Cour-Cheverny AOC’s and currently have 23 ha of vines. The vineyard is situated in a microclimate between the Loire River and the wild forests of Cheverny. Philippe believes that a wine should be the expression of the time and place from which it comes, the climactic conditions, as well as the hand the hands that make it. He believes that his wines "should give pleasure but must also be sound and healthy, alive and digestible and above all, should be natural."

This Pineau d'Aunis, known also as "Chenin Noir", is picked from young vines and spontaneously fermented then aged in neutral oak. High acid and vigorous, this is a natural wine that sparks conversation and keeps things high-spirited. The fruit is darker than you might expect, if you're a Pineau d'Aunis afficianado, but that's part of the fun.
