High in the Umbrian Apennines, surrounded by untouched forests and wild mountain landscapes, Tenuta Baroni Campanino makes a wonderfully distinctive expression of Sangiovese. Named Sassi Rosa for the pinkish stones found in the mountains around Assisi, this lively red offers bright cherries, wild berries, dried herbs, and a subtle savory, leafy character. Fresh acidity and pleasantly rustic tannins make it a particularly charming Italian table wine, with plenty of personality and none of the fuss. Just the thing for a big bowl of pasta with tomato sauce, roasted mushrooms, or a generous wedge of aged Pecorino.
